Did you know that abstraction in art pervades all great paintings, from Roman to Contemporary.
It is the abstraction that makes a painting great. In this class I will teach you how to see and paint
abstractly. The class includes color theory, the fundamentals of figure ground and a brief survey of
abstract art including early Roman painting through the breakthroughs in Modernism and up to the
exciting and diversified styles of contemporary abstraction.
Bring your own materials. Feel free to contact Hilary with any questions.

Carol Smith Myer
In her class, students will explore the methods of seeing, interpreting and applying the principles of color and light,
as employed by the great French, Russian and American impressionist masters, to create luminous paintings.
Students should bring previous work they wish to have critiqued. Carol will demonstrate impressionist color and composition techniques from an arranged live setup.
